When You Hear the Name Michael Vick, What's the First Thing that Comes to Mind?

Michael Vick was named the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback Tuesday, only a day after coach, Andy Reid said that Kevin Kolb would have the job. My only issue with this is that Vick will forever be known for his numerous altercations with the law. He spent 18 months in federal prison on the charge of aiding the operation of dog fighting.

Criminal Incidents:
  • In 2007, Vick's father made allegations that there had been possible dog fighting in 2001.
  • Two men were arrested for selling marijuana, in 2004, in a truck registered to Michael Vick.
  • In October of the same year, Vick and his friends were suspected of stealing the watch of an airport employee.
  • Sonya Elliott pressed charges in March of 2005 when she got genital herpes and Vick had refused to inform her.
  • During the following year, when he was getting booed by fans, he made an inappropriate gesture (holding up two middle fingers) towards them and was later fined.
  • On April 25, 2007 when Vick's cousin was being searched during a drug investigation, police found evidence of unlawful dog fighting.
This is a situation where I wonder if it is even worth the trouble that he could possibly cause. There were four years in a row that Vick ran into problems with the law. He does not have the best track record and he isn't the best role model. Do we want the young football fans of America learning from the examples of athletes who make the headlines because of their jail sentencing?
