My Vacation With Raymond Domenech

Okay, so I didn't actually vacation with Raymond Domenech but while I was vacationing in the Dominican Republic last week, a buzz began to arise among the guests at the resort I was staying at. My aunt came back from her group walk saying that people saw French football coach, Raymond Domenech on the resort. Now this was exciting to the general public because he is a famous coach in the world of European football; but what made the situation so much more intriguing was the fact that he happens to be one of the most controversial coaches around and secondly, we were at a resort infested with loads of French people. Initially we figured he must be staying in the private villas to distance himself from the general public (and Frenchmen who dislike him) but we later found out from an employee that he was staying in a regular room which was somewhat appalling to us. These two facts put together raise the following questions:
1) Why he is so disliked?
2) Why he would come to a resort so full of people who most likely despise him?

Answers:
1) There are two big controversies that have been tied to Domenech in his career. First, at the Euro 2008 tournament, Domenech's team lost to Italy pretty early on showing a bad representation of the French team. After the match, when he was being interviewed on live, national television, he is expected to explain what went wrong and apologize to the country for the mistakes he made in leading the team to failure. And instead of doing any of those things, he insists that his longtime girlfriend marry him; he didn't address the problem that occurred during the match at all. Secondly, each season, as the French team continued to get worse and worse, at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, France finished at the bottom of Group A after a 2-1 loss to South Africa. To further his bad rep, Domenech bowed out as he refused to shake hands with his opposite number in the final game.
2) Personally, if I was going to vacation with my family, I would not want to go to an island/resort so full of people who I am surrounded by when I am at home, especially when those people are constantly ridiculing me. That just doesn’t sound like a peaceful vacation, now does it? At that point, I feel that if he was getting “harassed” during his trip, the only person for him to blame is himself.
