Could It Finally Be Time to Hang Up the Uniform?

Minnesota Vikings star quarterback, Brett Farve, is still facing pain in his shoulder from the tendonitis he has been dealing with recently. And after his record-breaking 289 straight starts, he fears he might need to sit out of Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

During this season's training camp, a rumor had spread that Farve, 41, claimed to be speaking of retirement due to an injury he might not fully come back from. This one, minute possibility was thrown way out of proportion considering the idea had been thrown around numerous times before. However, now that he is facing another injury, is it possible that nature, and maybe even his body, are telling Brett that it's time to step down while he is still proud of the career he has had?

I'm not a huge Brett Farve fan. Mainly because, at this point, it just seems like he's staying in the NFL to be recognized as the player with the most consecutive starts and one of the oldest players. It's not as much about the game, for him, as it is about the recognition he will get by him staying apart of it. I mean look at all the hype that was caused just by the mere mention of the possibility of Brett Farve retiring. He knows how highly some people think of him and he milks it!

Now, I understand he has some major fans out there and I'm not trying to get anyone to believe what I am preaching, this is just my opinion on the matter... Brett Farve is overrated. He needs to understand that his time has passed and he needs to give the newer era of quarterbacks their time to shine.

At the moment he's injured and its severe enough that the injury is making him consider breaking his precious consecutive-starts record so maybe this is the right time to hang up the uniform and say good-bye to the NFL. If he stepped down now, I believe he would be more respected than if he waited until his performance started to decline; take the opportunity to do it while the time is right.
