Roy Halladay Silences the Reds' Bats

American League Schedule- Game 1:

Rangers                                                                  5
Rays         Wed., October 6th 1:37pm         1

National League Schedule- Game 1:
Reds                                                                           0
Phillies       Wed., October 6th 5:07pm        4

For only the second time in history, there was a no-hitter thrown in the post season today! Roy Halladay took it upon himself to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 1-0 lead over the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Division Series. He threw 104 pitches and 79 of them were strikes. To top it all off, he also helped his own cause by getting a hit and coming in as one of the four runs.

According to Espn.go.com, after the game, Halladay said, "It's surreal, it really is. "I just wanted to pitch here, to pitch in the postseason. To go out and have a game like that, it's a dream come true." With twelve years of experience under his belt, seven All-Star team selections, one Cy Young award, one TSN Pitcher of the Year award, and a perfect game, he thought he would take the opportunity to show that he deserved to be there pitching his first post season game ever. Halladay stepped up to the occasion and really proved himself today as the veteran he should be known as.

The fact that I'm not a Phillies fan makes me feel kind of ridiculous right now but I am freaking out. I could not imagine the feeling of pitching only the second no hitter in a post season EVER! I'm sure Halladay and Phillies fans are in disbelief if this is how an impartial fan feels.

Did this happen because the Reds aren't at the level to face such a good team and/or pitcher or was it simply the first game nervousness? In the central division, the Reds were the best so they had it pretty easy playing the less successful teams but now they are playing teams that are just as good, if not better, than them.  In the next few games we will see which situation it truly is. I have a feeling that it has to do with nerves and unfamiliarity with the pressure since the Reds haven't been to the post season in 15+ years.
