January 8th- The Day of the Underdogs

As the National Football League post season schedule just starts to take way, major upsets have already been seen. Yesterday, only two games were played; the New York Jets vs. the Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks vs. the New Orleans Saints. Yesterday, two underdogs overcame the two teams that played for a Super Bowl title last season. As the Colts played for the American Football Conference wild card spot and as the Saints played for the National Football Conference wild card spot, they just didn't have what it took to make it back for another Super Bowl appearance.

My initial reaction was, “does this have something to do with the so-called Super Bowl hangover?” As much as I want to deny it, let’s be real here, neither team had a stellar season this year and you know what they say about the season after you go to a Super Bowl. As the season was just beginning to get under way, I blogged about how the Colts were not going to become a victim of this dumb, made up hangover. But looking back now, it seems that that dumb hangover turned out to just make me look dumb. Hopefully now that the Colts have had this bad season, they can come back next season with a vengeance, with no Super Bowl hangover to worry about and a full, not-so-injured team to play.

Now what’s to be said about the two unexpected winners? Is this year’s Super Bowl going to be similar to last season’s baseball playoffs where many of the teams were those that hadn’t seen the post season in years? Even though I am extremely upset and disappointed in the Colts loss last night, I am interested to see how these underdogs will stand up against the powerhouses like the Steelers and the Patriots. With that being so, I hope that an unlikely team can come through and win the Super Bowl this season.
