The Season of Madness

Welcome to March... the month of basketballs, brackets, and pure madness. As we head into the final week of the regular season, the top seeds are still constantly changing. With this inconsistency, who knows who is going to stand out in March Madness. Perhaps an underdog will prevail, perhaps it will be the top four ranked teams in the Final Four, we simply don't know. Stick around and we'll find out!

2011 Men's Basketball Number 1 Ranking:
Week 2-Duke
Week 3-Duke
Week 4-Duke
Week 5-Duke
Week 6-Duke
Week 7-Duke
Week 8-Duke
Week 9-Duke
Week 10-Duke
Week 11-Ohio State
Week 12-Ohio State
Week 13-Ohio State
Week 14-Ohio State
Week 15-Kansas
Week 16-Duke
Week 17-Ohio State

As you can see, it has only been in the last seven weeks or so that the rankings have been changing, and it has been between the same three teams so does that mean that they are automatically going to make it through most of the tournament? Let's not get ahead of ourselves here; do I have to remind you of last year? In last years tournament, three of the four number one ranked teams didn't even make it to the semi-finals, and the one that did won it all. As much as we will analyze and we will simply have to wait and see.

As the season progresses, some teams have been making steady improvement each week as they climb the ranking charts. For example, BYU started at the 23rd ranked team in the nation in the AP Top 25 ranking; 16 weeks later, BYU is sitting pretty at number three. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a nice showing in the tournament and get pretty far. Another example, even without their star player, Robbie Hummel, Purdue has managed to go from 14th to sixth.

The competition is extremely tough this season; just look at the competition for the top ten rankings. We will just have to wait to see how this all plays out in the end.
